Wat Pho (Temple of the Reclining Buddha) - Wat Pho is located behind the Temple of the Emerald Buddha on Rattanakosin Island, directly to the south of the Grand Palace. The temple is one of the largest temple complexes in the city and famed for its giant reclining Buddha that measures 46 metres long and is covered in gold leaf.

Opening Hours: Daily 08:00 - 17:00 (Massage available until 18:00)
Location: Maharat Road. Close to the river (about a half mile south of the Grand Palace), Old City (Rattanakosin)

Erawan Shrine in Bangkok - Formerly known as the Thao Maha Phrom Shrine, is a Brahman shrine, that houses a statue of Phra Phrom, the Thai representation of the Hindu god of creation four-faced Lord Brahma. A popular worship attraction, it often features performances by resident Thai dance troupes, who are hired by worshippers in return for seeing their prayers at the shrine answered.

Jim Thompson House - The Jim Thompson House is the home of James H.W. Thompson, a self-made American entrepreneur who was the founder of the world renowned Jim Thompson Thai Silk Company. The elegant residential enclave, comprising six traditional Thai antique houses, is both a home and a showcase his art collection, sitting on the bank of the Saen Saeb Canal.

Opening Hours: 09:00-17:00 (last guided tour at 17:00)
Location: Soi Kasemsan 2, opposite the National Stadium on Rama I Road.

Grand Palace - Built in 1782 and for 150 years the palace is the home of the Thai King, the Royal court and the administrative seat of government. Today the Grand Palace is still used for official events, several royal ceremonies and state functions are held within the walls of the palace every year. Rather than being a single structure, the Grand Palace is made up of numerous buildings, halls, pavilions set around open lawns, gardens and courtyards. Its asymmetry and eclectic styles are due to its organic development, with additions and rebuilding being made by successive reigning kings over 200 years of history.

Dress Code: no short pants or short skirts, not sleeveless tshirts. Sarong are for rent at the entrance but better dress appropriately to avoid the queue.

Wat Phra Kaew - also known as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, is regarded as the most sacred Buddhist temple in Thailand. The temple is located in the historic centre of Bangkok, on Rattanakosin Island and within the area of the Grand Palace. The Emerald Buddha is the highly revered Buddha image meticulously carved from a single block of jade and housed in the temple that is a potent religio-political symbol and the palladium of Thai society.

Opening Hours: 8.30 am to 3.30 pm
Location: Na Phralan, Phra Nakorn (inside Grand Palace complex), Old City (Rattanakosin)
